At the North Bay and District Humane Society, the animals come first. The purpose of our organization is to uphold the goals of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Therefore, we work hard to protect animals from harm, to give them a place to stay when they are found out on their own, and to help them become adopted into loving families.
As an affiliate of the OSPCA, we do everything in our power to help animals who are homeless, abandoned or abused. Sometimes animals arrive that are injured or sick, and we do our best to rehabilitate the animal in order to prepare them for adoption. Thankfully, we also have the support and aid of local veterinarians who help us by providing medical advice, antibiotics, and by spaying and neutering the animals that come to us.
Of course, as a non-profit organization, our huge responsibilities are sometimes challenging. Adoption fees, surrender fees, lisence purchases, and donations provide us with the funds to feed, house, medicate, and provide health care, toys, blankets, and other needs to our animals. Appreciation goes towards those who help us with these daunting tasks through donations, volunteer hours, and other means.
We are proud to help animals in need within the community, and greatly anticipate the day when each of them leaves our care to start a brand new life with someone who can love and care for them.
The North Bay & District Humane SocietyThe North Bay & District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (S.P.C.A) was incorporated on August 6, 1954 under the Ontario Business Corporation Act. The Society is a non-profit organization and is exempt from income taxes under section 149(1)(1).
The current shelter building on Main Street West was mostly funded through the estate of the founding President, Mrs. Marjorie Wright. The shelter building is named "The Marjorie Wright Shelter for Animals" in her memory.
The Society is an affiliate, rather than a branch of the Ontario S.P.C.A., and pays an annual membership fee for this affiliation.
The Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
