North Bay and District
Humane Society

Our Team

The North Bay & District Humane Society animal shelter is run by a small group of dedicated staff, who work very hard to better the lives of the animals that come into their care. The staff work as a team in conjunction with the Humane Society Board and community volunteers to carry out the mission of the Humane Society.

I'm Sue.  A graduate of Canadore College's Community and Justice Services Program, I started here as a part-time Animal Control Officer in September of 2008.  Recently, my job title changed to Shelter Coordinator.

This job entails a variety of duties, such as maintaining the kennels; preparing animals for their new homes by vaccinating, micro-chipping and socialising them; ensuring the health of each of the animals; and managing the day to day changes in the status of the animals.  Every animal that comes through here spends time with me during routine cleaning and adoptions.  I enjoy my work, and find the variety of animals that come in to be interesting and my duties rewarding.

I love helping the animals that are in need and giving them a new start in a new life.  These furry friends are what make my job worthwhile.

Hello, my name is Janet and I started with the Humane Society in November 2008.  I'm a graduate of the Police Foundations program, and am certified in canine search and rescue training. I've also worked in a veterinary clinic for 5 years, providing care to hospitalized animals.

Hi, my name is Alexa and I have been working as an Animal Control Officer since July 2009.  I am a huge animal lover and I devote much of my time for the animals in need.  I am also currently in school at Canadore College taking Police Foundations.

My job as an Animal Control Officer consists of a variety of different calls throughout the day, and if the day ends on a sad note, there are always kittens to hug.  I enjoy working here at the North Bay and District Humane Society.

Humane Education/Volunteer Coordinator

     Adoption Animals 003.jpg

Hi, my name is Krista. I recently graduated from Nipissing University with my teaching degree and was hired in September 2009 to build a new Humane Education Program.  It's been a long journey so far, but definately fun and exciting.  When I came in here I didn't know much about what Humane Education meant.  But I've done plenty of research, spoke with some amazing people, and learned lots.

I'm very passionate about animal and social welfare as well as teaching, so this job has been perfect for me!  I look forward to meeting instructors, students, and the general public through our presentations, events, and volunteer opportunities.  Feel free to drop in or give me a call if you're ever interested in learning more.
