The staff at the North Bay and District Humane Society is pleased to announce that we are offering a new Humane Education program.

While we have delivered presentations in the past that focus on dog bite prevention, the importance of spaying and neutering animals and rabies awareness, we are now planning on introducing new themes and topics into our program.  In addition to the topics mentioned, we will add activities and information that heighten awareness of positive attitudes and behaviours towards others (especially  animals) and facilitate a greater appreciation for the life of all.

Some topics include the following:

  • Positive Interaction Between Humans and Animals
  • Spay/Neuter Program
  • Dog Bite Prevention
  • Relationships Between Animals and Environments (Inside and Outside of the Home)
  • Animals in the News
  • Travelling With Your Pet
  • Working Animals (Guide Dogs and Other Jobs)
  • ...and more!

(A complete list of available topics can be acquired from our Humane Education Coordinator, Krista.)

Our Humane Education Program is based upon the goals of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA), of which we are an affiliated member.  We intend to inform individuals about animal welfare and help them to develop positive character traits such as compassion, empathy, and respect.

This program is being offered to schools, youth groups, and other interested community groups in the North Bay area.  Presentations run between 30 minutes to 1 hour and are offered on a request basis. Instructors may request specific topics such as Dog Bite Prevention or Working Animals; or they may request other topics for consideration.  For older groups, we will cover more controversial issues such as Factory Farming or current animal media stories.  We can also tailor presentations to meet the needs of your group, or a specific time slot.

All presentations are completely free.

If you are interested in scheduling a presentation for your classroom, youth group, or other public group, please contact the humane society using the information found at the bottom of this webpage.

You may also send requests through email to kpedersen893@gmail.com.

We look forward to hearing from you.
