Before Surgery

Weight / Body Condition

All animals should be within an ideal weight range according to a Body Condition Scale. Ideal weight should be 5-75 lbs however additional fees are available for dog neuters over 75 lbs. We do not spay large breed females over 75 lbs. Call 705-478-8233 for more information.

Females – Cat & Dog

We do not spay females in heat due to increased risk of surgical complications. If your pet is in heat leading up to your appointment, you may reschedule a minimum of 3 business day prior to your booking without an additional fee.

Males – Cat & Dog

We recommend that males have both testicles present in the scrotal sac, however bookings are available for cryptorchid pets. Please notify us in advance if your pet is cryptorchid. An additional fee will apply.

General Behaviour

If you have any concerns about your pet’s behavourial traits (ex. aggression, fear), please notify us in advance of your appointment in order to protect the safety of our staff and volunteers.

General Health

To help reduce the risks associated with surgery, as they are undergoing a general anesthetic, it is in the best interest of your pet to be in good health. Please notify us if your pet has any diagnosed medical condition(s) that may affect the surgical procedure.

Vaccines

Vaccinations are required to have been administered by your vet within the previous 12 months prior to your procedure. For more information about which vaccines are required, please speak with your primary veterinarian.

It is a legal requirement in the province of Ontario for all dogs and cats over the age of 4 months to be immunized against rabies. Proof of vaccinations is required at the time of the procedure.

Fasting

Please remove food and water from your pet beginning midnight prior to surgery. We recommend you remove food before going to bed. This is done to prevent complications while under anesthetic. Please inform us the morning of your pet’s procedure if anything has been consumed.

Check In

You will be provided with a check-in time prior to your appointment. We ask that you please arrive at the clinic with your pet on a leash or in a carrier. Upon check-in, our staff will assist you with completing our pre-surgical admission form and answer any questions you may have.
