Animal Control Services

Animals in need are at the forefront of the work involved at the North Bay and District Humane Society. We are contracted by the City of North Bay, the Municipality of West Nipissing, the Municipality of East Ferris and the Township of Bonfield to provide animal control and after-hours emergency services. Emergency services are comprised of injured dogs and cats that are at large where an owner cannot be found. If you encounter an injured dog or cat where an owner cannot be found, please contact us by calling 705-474-1251. City of North Bay

Animal Control Services

  • To pick up stray cats and dogs Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm) and Saturday (10am to 2pm) exclusive of statutory holidays

  • To pick up injured dogs and cats 24 hours per day, 7 days per week where an owner cannot be found

Law Enforcement

  • Effective January 1, 2022, the North Bay Humane Society does not enforce the Dog Owners’ Liability Act for the City of North Bay. For issues relating to the Dog Owners’ Liability Act including where a dog has bitten or attacked a person or domestic animal; or a dog has behaved in a manner that poses a menace to the safety of persons or domestic animals, please contact North Bay Police by calling 705-472-1234.

Municipality of West Nipissing

(including Sturgeon Falls, Field, Cache Bay, Crystal Falls, Verner, River Valley, Lavigne and North Monetville)

  • To enforce all Municipal By-Laws affecting the control and keeping of animals, namely;

Municipality of East Ferris

(including Corbeil and Astorville)

Animal Control Services

  • Monday to Friday (exclusive of statutory holidays) an officer will be available, and as dictated by priority, to the East Ferris area from 9am to 5pm to respond to complaints of dogs or cats at large, stray or abandoned dogs or cats, and by-law infractions only if the dog or cat is humanely confined either by being in a building, crate, cage, box, or tethered safely.

  • To enforce all Municipal By-Laws affecting the control and keeping of animals, namely;

Emergency Services

  • Emergency services will be provided from 5pm to 9am Monday to Friday and on weekends. Emergency services are comprised of injured dogs or cats that are at large and an owner cannot be found and requests for assistance by local police services that pertain to dog or cat issues.

  • The North Bay Humane Society does not enforce the Dog Owners’ Liability Act for the Municipality of East Ferris. For issues relating to the Dog Owners’ Liability Act including where a dog has bitten or attacked a person or domestic animal; or a dog has behaved in a manner that poses a menace to the safety of persons or domestic animals, please contact the Ontario Provincial Police by calling 1-888-310-1122.

Township of Bonfield

Animal Control Services

  • Monday to Friday (exclusive of statutory holidays) an officer will be available, and as dictated by priority, to the Township area from 9:00am to 5:00pm to respond to complaints of animals at large, stray animals, and By-law infractions only if the animal is humanely confined, either by being in a building, crate, cage, box, or tethered safely.

  • To enforce all By-laws affecting the control and keeping of animals, as adopted and amended from time to time, such By-laws including those currently in force in the Township, namely;
