Adopt a Working Cat

Working Cats: Your Natural Pest Control Solution

Not every cat is suited for a traditional home, but every cat deserves a chance to live a happy and fulfilling life. Our Working Cats Program provides an alternative placement for feral or semi-feral cats that aren’t comfortable living indoors. These cats thrive in outdoor environments such as barns, warehouses, farms, and other properties where they can serve as natural pest control while receiving care and shelter from their human caretakers.

What is a Working Cat?

A working cat is a cat that is not well-socialized with people but still deserves a safe and purposeful life. Instead of being kept inside as a pet, these cats live in outdoor or semi-outdoor environments, where they provide effective, chemical-free rodent control. Many of these cats come from situations where they cannot be returned to their original location but are not suited for a traditional adoption.

Benefits of a Working Cat

  • Natural, Eco-Friendly Pest Control: Working cats help keep rodent populations under control without the need for harmful poisons or traps.
  • Low Maintenance: Once acclimated to their new environment, working cats require minimal daily care – just food, water, and shelter.
  • Companionship & Security: While they may not be lap cats, many working cats form bonds with their caretakers and can provide companionship in their own unique way.
  • Saving Lives: By adopting a working cat, you’re giving a feral or unsocialized cat a second chance at life in a safe environment.

Where Can a Working Cat Live?

  • Barns & Stables
  • Warehouses & Factories
  • Farms & Rural Properties
  • Greenhouses & Nurseries
  • Breweries & Wineries
  • Feed Stores & Garden Centers
